Patent Application Describes HemoVoid¢â To Uncover Proteomic Changes from
Autologous Blood-doping
MONMOUTH JUNCTION, NJ, January 15, 2021 --Biotech Support Group reports on a patent
application describing the simplicityand efficiency of their hemoglobin depletion technology for
human stored redblood cells. The citation is:
Christer, M. A. L. M., et
al. "Methods for the detection of autologous
blood-doping." U.S. Patent
Application No. 16/976,936.
The patent application relates to the identification of peptides, andthe corresponding proteins,
that can be used in methods for the detection ofautologous blood doping. More specifically, the
invention relates to methodscomprising tryptic digestion of samples of isolated red blood cell
(RBC),specifically isolated RBC cytosol, followed by peptide mapping using liquidchromatography
tandem-mass spectroscopy (LC-MS/MS). Theinvention¡¯s description states ¡°Hemoglobin depletion was
performed usingHemoVoid resin, buffers and filter tubes as described by the manufacturer(Biotech Support
Group) using a standard bench-top centrifuge.¡±. Uponthe preferable depletion of hemoglobin, the
methods enable detection ofincreased levels of certain peptides in samples from subjects that
have beensubjected to autologous blood doping, compared to samples from non-dopedcontrol
subjects.
¡°There is great interest in understanding theproteomic changes in red cells upon storage or in
disease states. Being able toquantify these changes using LC-MS/MS is very important to help
testing forautologous blood-doping and possibly other conditions. As this patentapplication
describes, proteomic analysis is a very productive way to uncoverand measure these important
changes. I am pleased that our Hemo-Void¢â productis proving to be quite useful for these
purposes¡± states Swapan Roy, Ph.D.,President and Founder of Biotech Support Group.
