Rat Brain Frozen Sections
Zyagen offers frozen sections of many regions/areas of rat brain in coronal, sagittal, and horizontal orientations. Brains are
snapped frozen or fixed frozen in OCT blocks, sectioned at a thickness of 7-10microns and mounted on positively charged
slides. Frozen sections of brains of mice perifused with cold 4% paraformaldehyde or buffered formalin are also available
upon request, contact technical service for availabilty.
Tissue sections are routinely made of Sprague Dawley rat brains but we can also make tissue sections of other rat strains
(inbred, outbred, mutant, hybrid, transgenic) upon request..
Frozen sections are shipped in tightly closed slide boxes or slide mailers on dry ice and are good for one year if properly
stored.
We also offers floating thick brain sections in coronal, sagittal, and horizontal orientations. Floating sections are
specifically made for Immunostaining done in culture dishes. Brains are fixed for O/N in 10% buffered formalin,
cryoprotected for 24 - 36hr, snapped frozen in O.C.T, sectioned at a thickness of 30 microns and shipped in 6- or 12-well
culture plates.
Applications: Frozen tissue sections are prepared in RNase-, protease-free environment and are ideal for
immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization.

Rat Brain Frozen Coronal Sections
Zyagen offer frozen coronal sections of 14 regions/areas of rat brain (as illustrated below). Brains are snapped frozen in
OCT, sectioned coronal in orientation at a thickness of 7-10 microns, and sections mounted on positively charged slides.
Each slide contains 2 sections. Frozen sections are shipped in tightly closed slide boxes or slide mailers on dry ice. Brain
frozen coronal sections of rats perifused with 10% neutral buffered formalin or 4% paraformeldehyde are also available
upon request. Sections are made under RNase- and protease-free conditions and are ideal for immunohistochemistry and
in situ hybridization.

Zyagen offer frozen floating thick sections of rat brain in coronal, sagittal, and horizontal orientation. Floating thick
sections are specifically made for immunostaining in culture dishes. Brains are fixed O/N in 10% buffered formalin,
cryoprotected for 24-36hr, snapped frozen in OCT, and sectioned at a thickness of 30 microns in coronal, sagittal, or
horizontal orientation. Frozen thick sections are shipped in 6- or 12-well culture plates (one section per each well) on dry
ice. Sections are good for several months from the date of shipping if stored properly. Frozen floating thick brain sections
of rats perifused with 4% paraformeldehyde are also available upon request.
